The Spiraling Narrative
Found chimney bricks, Ø 85 cm, 2021.
“The Spiralling Narrative” is made from a chimney, removed from my father’s commercial garden. The title is taken from a storytelling technique often used in cinema. The technique is about exploring the theme of a narrative from as many angles and perspectives as possible. The idea is to repeat the thematics of the narrative by taking events in the foreground - intrigue, dialogue and characters - and reflecting them in the background with symbols and images. The work is given a structural resonance through these symbols and images.
With this sculpture, however, it is more about exploring the symbols, while the events are in the background.
The logarithmic spiral is a special kind of spiral curve, which is common in nature. From different types of living organisms like flowers, shellfish and snails, to how an eagle hunts its prey, how insects travel towards light sources and how galaxies are formed.
This becomes an echo of what is happening in the garden, from which the chimney was taken.
