Immersed in his labor, I move through the infinity of time and space
Glass cabinet with found hand tools, 180 x 110 x 45 cm, 2022.
Public artwork, Tierps local health unit, Tierp.
In the glass cabinet are a number of processed objects. The objects were found on a small farm in Attarp. Attarp is located in northwestern Skåne where Hallandsåsen begins to rise. The farm consists of a farmhouse from the beginning of the 19th century, pastures and forest. The farm has a small barn and two stables for horses, pigs and cows and a chicken house. Over the years, farming and livestock husbandry have been combined with forestry. The last one to manage agriculture was Åke. Åke inherited the farm from his parents and lived there alone all his life.
After Åke's dead, my wife and I took over the farm. For several years I have followed in Åke's footsteps, sorted through his tools, moved around his agricultural machinery and eventually became an Åke - Åke was the type who never threw anything away. Most of it is worn out, broken and unusable. Despite this, I have not been able to get rid of Åke's tools. Tools that are the last testimony of Åke.
The surfaces are now processed. The rust is removed. Wooden parts are cleaned. The tools have both my and Åke's signature. I see the art work as a collaboration with, and a tribute to, Åke. A tribute to the work that takes place in everyday life. A work that fills our lives. I imagine and hope that this action will resonate with the viewer. A viewer who isperhaps a bit unkempt and scruffy himself.
The display cabinet itself creates a frame that helps highlight and give the objects a new value. In many ways similar to the place where the cabinet is placed. A place run by staff and people who see andlisten to those who need it most.
