The Principle of Superposition
Lauan plywood, electric light, found glass, 68 x 50 x 24 cm, 2014.
For the work ”The Principle of Superposition”, I have gathered and sorted worn out window glass from my father’s commercial garden. The oldest has been lying around for thirty years. The title refers to a basic principle in geology. The principle simply states that the lower sedimentary layers are older than the upper layers. That means a layer can be dated, based on the layers above and below it. This principle is used to chart time and environmental events in a given location. The work thus becomes a timeline of the garden.
